Ahobila Mutt

Ahobila Mutt (also called Ahobila Matam) is a Vadakalai Sri Vaishnava religious institution established 600 years ago at Ahobilam in India by Athivan Satakopa Svami (originally known as Srinivasacharya).[1][2][3] Athivan Sathakopa, a Vadakalai brahmin,[4] who was a great grand disciple of Vedanta Desika[5][6] and a sishya of Brahmatantra Swatantra Jiyar of Parakala Mutt,[7] founded and established the Muth, based on the Pancharatra tradition.[8][9][10][11] Since then a succession of forty-six ascetics known as "Azhagiya Singar" have headed the monastic order.

Ahobila Mutt is among the organizations that follow Sri Vedanta Desika as the torch bearer of Sri Ramanuja's teachings. The others are Sri Parakala Matam, Sri Srirangam Andavan Ashramam and Sri Powndareekapuram Andavan Ashramam. Ahobila Mutt is the second oldest in this line. As per legend, one of the nine Nrisimhas of Ahobilam called Lord Malolan jumped into the hands of Athivan Satakopan and ordered him to travel the length and breadth of the country. The current pontiffs are - Srivan Satakopa Sri Narayana Yateendra Mahadesikan (45th Jiyar), and the 46th Jiyar Srivan Satakopa Sri Ranganatha Yateendra Mahadesikan.
